Welcome
Thoughts from Britt Shackelford
President, North Carolina Watermen United

Welcome to our website. Our updated site and our outlook will better keep our members and all educated fishermen informed and up-to-speed on the four stakeholders in the Fisheries Resources that surround our professional watermen. The four stakeholders are:

Charter/Headboat Fishermen:
This sector brings millions of dollars into the state from people who come here for a day – or two or three – for the excitement of fishing inshore or offshore on a boat with a local guide.

Charter boats leaving Hatteras Inlet at Sunrise
Commercial Harvesters:
Our commercial fishermen play a vital role in the state’s economy with pounds and pounds of fish to send all over the country and to provide our local restaurants with the best “Catch-of-the-day.”

Recreational Fishermen:
Many people come here – loaded down with tackle and gear, towing their boats behind them – to take advantage of our excellent fishing.

Recreational fishermen in Hatteras salt marsh
Consumers:
Tourists by the thousands visit for “vacation;” to spend some time on the water; to catch some fish; to watch a sunset and eat our excellent seafood.

With your help, a little old-fashioned Good Luck (I’ll take some luck every day!) and some of the Lord’s blessings, we are not only going to survive, but THRIVE, as we charge into the 21st century.

Welcome Aboard! And Hold onto your Hat!
